You may be able to receive free software from adobe.
Schools may make application for an adobe software grant. Many of my clients have received copies of InDesign or Photoshop and many have received the full Creative Suite. Clients should Email me! and I will email you the forms necessary to apply for this software. It's the best deal around and all the schools I have had apply so far have received the grant.

Before you begin... you plan.

The first step is to critique your last book. Talk about what you like and wish to continue covering in a similar way. Also what do you want to change because it not working or you want improvement. Take lots of notes.

Review comments from yearbook critique services (THSPA, NSPA, CSPA, ACP) and discuss which recommended changes you wish to incorporate into your yearbook plan.

Set goals. Goals that stretch your abilities but are realistic. For example some schools set a goal to have each student pictured at least 2 times. Set financial goals. How many ads you'll sell, how many books etc. Some would set a goal to have a good caption for every picture. Maybe you want a great dominate photo on every spread.

This first step of looking at where you've been and setting goals for where you want to go will be the first step in improving your yearbook.
